Period proud. Peer support. Positive change.

A whole-school approach to making periods normal, supported and stigma-free.

This programme builds confidence, kindness and culture change — so students can stay in school and learn without embarrassment or barriers.

What is it?

A school-wide menstrual wellbeing programme combining:

  • Free, accessible period products

  • Clear, practical menstrual education

  • Student-led campaigns and peer support

  • Leadership training for Menstrual Ambassadors

Everyone benefits — and selected students gain deeper skills and confidence as leaders.

Why it matters

Periods are still affecting attendance, wellbeing and learning for many students.

Better menstrual understanding, support and access improves students wellbeing, helping them to show up, feel safe and take part fully in school life with

UK research

Recent UK findings highlight that period-related issues are affecting students’ school experiences:

  • A recent study in England found that menstrual symptoms like pain and heavy bleeding were associated with increased absence and lower GCSE attainment.

  • Research shows teachers perceive menstrual cycles to influence school attendance, confidence and behaviour.

These are not isolated issues — they’re signals that better menstrual literacy, products and supportive environments can help students stay in class and learn with confidence.

What students and staff do

  • Normalise periods through creative school-wide campaigns

  • Make products and information easy to access

  • Learn simple self-care and symptom-management tools

  • Support open, respectful conversations about menstrual health

  • (Ambassadors) develop leadership and peer-support skills through termly workshops

What is menstrual wellbeing?

It means:

  • Understanding your cycle and what’s normal

  • Why you feel different throughout the menstrual cycle

  • Knowing how to manage symptoms with confidence

  • Having products and support without shame or stress

When students feel supported, learning becomes easier.

What schools receive

  • Support improving access to free period products

  • Menstrual education resources

  • Engaging campaigns for the whole school

  • Targeted Ambassador training and support

  • A shift towards a period-proud, stigma-free culture
